It’s promising! I am talking about my ankle and my garden. I didn’t get much in the earth because of my bum ankle but just placing those little kernels of hope in the fresh, perfect soil was invigorating. I also went to a physical therapist who did pain reflex release technique so that helped too.
So, here is what I actually planted…instead of what I had planned on planting yesterday (all from High Mowing Seeds):
High Mowing Mesclun Mix
Mammoth Melting Sugar Snow Peas
Bull’s Blood Beets
I think compost is like magic. I have an especially great batch that I put on half of my beds today. I am not at all scientific about it but it works.
My current unfinished pile I turned this afternoon (I still have one good ankle):

Um, mom, Sam here (of course, you already knew that as we are so connected) and Alice wanted me to tell you that she doesn’t appreciate the Lassie comment. If you wanted an ass-kisser like Lassie, then maybe you should have adopted one. I agree with Alice; she was there for you, man, and that must have really hurt.
Oh, and where did you put that fat, juicy worm in the picture?
love, Sam
ps Who is that handsome cat in the photo? (tee hee hee)
I do “dig this chick”! Love all the neswy news & “family photogs”…but where is Olive & Andy? (evryone’s a criic)
P.S.You are so amazingly clever….you must have a fablous Mother!
So, I have never been a veggie gardener, only flowers. But I would like to try it this summer, perhaps in pots. Are you seeding in the ground right now? Isn’t it too early? I love this, it is like having my own personal garden adviser.
Yes. I am seeding in the ground right now. For cold weather veggies (lettuce, greens, pea, radish, beet) you can stick in the ground as soon as the ground can be worked so I am really a week or so later than I’d like to be.
LOVE this site even though I am, alas, horticulturally declined. I did get very excited though when I thought you posted that you had planted mescaline but upon a second read I realized that you had planted something that was perhaps more in the salad family than the peyote family. Certainly not enough to deter me from continuing to dig this chick!
Onward and sideways…
Bull’s Blood Beets. Perfectly poetic.
I know Jean! Isn’t it irresistible?
