Ruby announced she is a vegetarian. Except she maybe plans to eat hotdogs once a year when camping with her cousins.
I remembered all those years I was a vegetarian as I made a huge loaf of buffalo liver, pork shoulder, squash, rice, egg, egg shells and carrots for Alice’s food for the week.
Margot lost two teeth in one day.
The sun shone so steady and bright and warm that it felt like summer.
We turned on the furnace to take the edge off those 35 degree mornings and it felt like fall.
We turned over garden beds to make room for garlic.
I found boots I loved. And there was one pair left, in my size and half off.
Andy made me coffee every morning when I forced my eyelids open for another day of squeezing computer work into every available nook of my day and night.

Congratulations on launching your new site! I am sure that all of your hard work and dedication will pay off x
Congrats on your new site! That is a huge deal and it looks great. And as for Ruby announcing her veggie self – My five year old said something hauntingly similar. “I am a vegetarian except for sliders.” She will be 8 in four days and now makes no exceptions for sliders, but maybe bacon once a year:-)
Can I take a break from grad school and come apprentice with you? Kind of serious.
I’m making 7 Halloween costumes for friends’ kids right now 🙂 so fun. (sew fun! ;-))
i want to see these boots! 😉
congrats on the new site!!!
and whoa! what a beautiful deer snap.
The only reason I haven’t ordered your stuff yet, although I’ve followed you forever and just adore you, is because I live… in Wyoming. Have you figured out some awesome way to make it look like something other than a big ‘ole rectangle?
Ha ha! How many Wyomingites ask about Wyoming? (I guess there’s not a whole lot of us….) I’ve wondered the same thing, many a time. I’ve been reading your blog since before Ruby was born (you knew that) and I totally love your stuff, but what DO you do about that big ol’ squarish rectangle of a state of ours? Buffalo (state flag)? Steamboat (the bucking bronc and rider)?
I do get asked about this a lot! We usually do the US with a heart on Wyoming (or Colorado). Or, The US with another appliqué of Wyoming on top of the country. It’s a big ol’ BEAUTIFUL rectangle, your state!
Congrats on getting your shop set up!
Cheers for Ruby! I announced myself vegetarian when I was 6. I didn’t get the courage to turn down all meat at friends houses for a few years, but with the once annual exception for my mother’s Turkey Gravy at thanksgiving, the decision has stuck. Maybe soy is worse than whatever is in hot dogs, but I roast smartfoods soy links over the campfire and top them like a hot dog and feel like I’m missing nothing. Just in case Ruby is interested.
My kids love tofu pups!
my (5 year old ) son announced he was becoming a vegetarian “after he ate 3 more pieces of bacon”.
that was 8 months ago. He’s still sticking to it. Apparently he thinks ‘fakin bacon’ is pretty tasty…
I always told myself that I would not be a mother who caves and makes ‘separate, different’ dinners for my child. But I broke that rule because I respect his intent and values. As a family, we’re almost vegetarian, but sometimes the rest of us crave some meat once in awhile.
Like you, we eat very little meat but we do eat it. I love that she has this strong opinion. I was vegetarian for many years in a big meat-eating family. My mom made me a different dinner every night and I so appreciated it. 🙂 Your son will too, I’m certain.
